September 11th 2009 : Derek Jeter had needed to just one hit on a rainy night in the Bronx to pass Lou Gehrig as the Yankees all time hits leader. Fans around baseball felt that the accomplishment was being over hyped, but if you are a fan of the Yankees or live in New York you realize what it meant.
Lou Gehrig is one of the many iconic figures in Yankees history, and held the Yankees hit record for 72 years. But on this night, at the new Yankee Stadium Derek Jeter would pass that record and further his historic Yankees career.
2009 was one of Jeter's best overall seasons, he hit for a high average and won a gold glove. The same statement can not be said for his 2010 season, almost all of his stats this season are careers lows and well below his career average.
