Yankees show interest in Bill Hall

The Eric Chavez era may be coming to a quick close, the Yankees are reportedly in "serious talks" with Bill Hall according to Ken Rosenthal. The Yanks would use Hall in a utility role, a spot the eight year vet has done before with the Brewers and Red Sox.

The deal would likely be a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. As long as its a minor league deal, I think its a nice move. Signing Hall would be an upgrade over the injury prone Eric Chavez. Hall also is younger and can play multiple positions, something he proved with the Red Sox in 2010 when he played 7 different positions.

Currently in AAA the Yanks have Brandon Laird and Ramiro Pena available as back up infielders. Neither give the Yanks much on offense, and can mainly play the infield, a spot Eduardo Nunez is expected to fill. Hall can play the outfield, and still give some offense (he did hit 35 home runs in 2006). With the addition of Hall, the bombers would likely pass on a DH for now, possibly waiting until spring training starts to see if prices fall.

$20 for parking near Yankee Stadium!

Rain was in the forecast, but that couldn't stop me from going to the first game in close to a month. In fact this was the first game in my plan I was going to all season, since I sold off the other games. After exiting the Major Deegan via exit 4, my friend and I found parking for $20. The lot is a pretty far walk from Yankee Stadium, but it beats paying the extra $15 and is close to the Gateway center which charges $30.

As the promotion they were giving away grass seed, the irony was that across the street where the old Yankee Stadium once stood, grass was being put down. Its a strange yet nice site to the old stadium that way, I just keep reminding myself that it's better that its turned into a park than them making its a parking lot.

After arriving inside the new structure I checked out what was new, the answer is nothing really. At gate two they were having some sort of group outing, and part of the area was roped off, their was no batting practice and the tarp was on the field, so instead it was time to indulge in nachos from Wholly Guacamole.

Eduardo Nunez started at shortstop instead of Jeter, he made a pair of errors in the night and my new name for him is now Error Nunez, but let it be known I like him much better then Ramiro Pena.

The game itself was exactly what you want to see as a Yankee fan. CC Sabathia was dealing and the Yanks bats came alive without Jeter or Tex. Surprisingly the crowd looked pretty good from section 235, sure their were some empty sections but nothing that would make me think that it would be the lowest attended game in new stadiums history (40,081).

But the stupid metal side was in the way.

The game eventually turned into a blowout and some dummy's began to do the wave, I don't care that it is 8-0, I still hate it. After that the most exciting then was the Yankees scoring a few more runs and some kid accidentally tossed a Yankees hulk hand over the upper deck and it landed a few rows in front of me.

Are you sure he's only 37?

Yes it has been a while, in fact its been too long. Anyway here is a run down of some things that don't really deserve their own post.

• It could it be time for Bartolo Colon to stick in the starting rotation. Yes I will admit I was against the Yankees even giving him a legitimate shot, but with the way he has pitched it is tough to deny him the chance. I'm talking about him taking Ivan Nova's spot once Hughes comes back. Nova has yet to impress me, and is very frustrating to watch. The kid walks way to many guys and struggles his third go round in the batting order, I rather see him go down and work on some more pitches while the Yanks try and ride of Colon and hope he stays healthy.
• Brett Gardner needs to have a long sit down with Kevin Long. Girardi should think of sitting him for a few days to clear his mind and then hope that a few lessons with Long pay off. Gardner is hitting just .128 this season, and although last season was one of the better left fielders, his arm is awful. I don't think it's time to send him down, but he has killed the Yanks so far.
• This one is at Girardi but can Eduardo Nunez get in a game? And pinch running doesn't count. This is a young player that was ranked as one of the top 10 prospects in the Yankees system, and was rumored in trade talks this past winter. Sitting on the bench in the big league is not going to help his progress as a player and possible trade bait. If they were gonna do this, they should have gave Ramiro Pena the job.
