Great Yankee montages on Youtube

You may not know this but I am a big time sucker for video or audio montages. I have no clue why but I love them, it's like all the players greatest moments sealed, signed and dilevered, often with music that I enjoy. So here are two different videos from two different accounts.

That video is from SuperYankeesBaseball , he has a ton of different current Yankees and other MLB player video montages. My one issue is that some of the videos freeze and that on some the sound is a bit too load, but still the clips are great.

The A-Rod video is from YouTube user YanksNG22. No diss to the video above, but this is one of the most professional looking montages on YouTube. Very well done.

If you have created your own montage or have one that you recommend, send it my way. Maybe I'll even add it to the site.

Yankee Stadium Expierences: Yankees vs White Sox 4/28/2011

$20 for parking near Yankee Stadium!
Rain was in the forecast, but that couldn't stop me from going to the first game in close to a month. In fact this was the first game in my plan I was going to all season, since I sold off the other games. After exiting the Major Deegan via exit 4, my friend and I found parking for $20. The lot is a pretty far walk from Yankee Stadium, but it beats paying the extra $15 and is close to the Gateway center which charges $30.

As the promotion they were giving away grass seed, the irony was that across the street where the old Yankee Stadium once stood, grass was being put down. Its a strange yet nice site to the old stadium that way, I just keep reminding myself that it's better that its turned into a park than them making its a parking lot.

Tough to see, but grass is back on
the old Yankee Stadium site.
After arriving inside the new structure I checked out what was new, the answer is nothing really. At gate two they were having some sort of group outing, and part of the area was roped off, their was no batting practice and the tarp was on the field, so instead it was time to indulge in nachos from Wholly Guacamole.

Eduardo Nunez started at shortstop instead of Jeter, he made a pair of errors in the night and my new name for him is now Error Nunez, but let it be known I like him much better then Ramiro Pena.

The game itself was exactly what you want to see as a Yankee fan. CC Sabathia was dealing and the Yanks bats came alive without Jeter or Tex. Surprisingly the crowd looked pretty good from section 235, sure their were some empty sections but nothing that would make me think that it would be the lowest attended game in new stadiums history (40,081).

The sky looked really cool after it a quick shower.
But the stupid metal side was in the way.
The game eventually turned into a blowout and some dummy's began to do the wave, I don't care that it is 8-0, I still hate it. After that the most exciting then was the Yankees scoring a few more runs and some kid accidentally tossed a Yankees hulk hand over the upper deck and it landed a few rows in front of me.

Final score: Yankees 12 White Sox 3

Pride, Power, Pinstripes and spam??: Yankees Release list of all season ticket holders information

D''oh
Earlier this week, a Yankees ticket agent sent an E-Mail accidentally to over 1,000 of his clients releasing personal information from all 17,000 Yankee season ticket plan holders. While the information did not include social security number or any type of banking information it did list the following: Name, address, email address, phone number, seat location and Yankees account number.

The list was first reported on Monday when a member of the NYYFans forum reported receiving the list from his agent Ken Cleary, setting off more panic than when Rafael Soriano comes into a game.

Then on Wednesday the Yankees sent an email apologizing to season ticket holders, for the whole mess up. But shouldn't the Yankees do a bit more than say sorry via email? Now I understand that no banking information was leaked but personal information, is still something very private. For a first class organization they should take the time to first change every ones account numbers no matter how inconvenient that could be for Yankee subscribers and for the organization and secondly sign everyone up that is on the list for fraud protection insurance.

I have yet to see the list myself but I am sure that my information is on the list as well if all season ticket holders info is listed. Does it bother me, kinda but I realize that it was a simple mistake by the ticket rep (more on that in a minute) and that almost all of that information could be found by searching for someone on the Internet or through social networks.

Yeah that guy, is the one who did it!
The other thing is that Yankee fans are calling for Ken Cleary's head, wanting the organization to fire him. The guy made a mistake that could cost the Yankees alot of money in the long run if they have to reimburse the fans, but he shouldn't be fired over it. Most Yankee ticket reps are younger kids just out of college, and in this economy it is tough to find another job. I wouldn't be against the Yanks possibly reassigning him to another area, but I would hope that Lonn Trost and the rest of the ticket department has a heart and doesn't fire him right on the spot.

Since Monday, NYY Stadium Insider, Dead Spin and all the New York papers have picked up this story. Some reports have said that some fans have already received phone calls and emails from scams and ticket brokers, if this is true the Yankees will have so explaining to do.

  • The new playoff possibility
  • Our trip to Sonic

Should Russell Martin's hot start effect the catching prospects?

The sweet sound of John Sterling calling a Russell Martin homer in french. While John Sterling's calls might be lame or hated by Yankee fans, it does mean the bombers have added at least a run on the board. Last night at Camden Yards in Baltimore Sterling had the chance to yell his "Russell has muscle" line twice, to add to his total of  6 so far this season. So with Martin's resurgence, the question many Yankee fans are asking, is it time to trade Jesus Montero and some of the other catching prospects?

Let me start by saying that the Yankees could and likely should trade any of the prospects if the right trade comes along. The prospects I am talking about are Jesus Montero, Austin Romine, J.R. Murphy and Gary Sanchez. I don't think that anyone would complain if Montero was sent to Seattle and the Yanks got back Felix Hernandez in return, but their would be an outrage if the Yanks wanted to ship him off to Chicago for someone like Carlos Zambrano. So the deal must be right for the Yanks, but what about the over load of catchers in the minors with a top 10 catcher in the majors? Well I think it's safe to say that of course it is just April and Martin could just be having a great month. He is injury prone, and is set to put up career highs, I think its safe to say that nobody would expect Martin to hit close to 40 homers this season, but that's the pace he is on track for. Martin has been the arguably the Yanks MVP thru the first 17 games, and is so valuable Joe Girardi has sat him just once all season.

While Martin is having a great season in the majors, four prospects are pondering their future in the minors. Montero is the lighting it up in AAA hitting .414, he did struggle during spring training, but that shouldn't effect his overall out look. Romine is more of a defensive catcher, but could proved the occasional hit, Gary Sanchez is very young but could be similar to Montero in a few seasons. Murphy is the biggest unknown, but is suppose to be a fair all around player. The Yankees won't need four catchers, but shouldn't trade them all.

Martin has been on a hot start but will it last? Looking at past history I doubt that. At the trade deadline of the Yankees wanted to trade away one of the catching prospects for a pitcher of equal value I would have no issue, but at this point no need to trade away a bright future for a hot start.

Another April rain out for the Yankees

So for the third time this season the Yankees will have play at a later date. Tonight's game against the Baltimore Orioles was rained out, and while no make up date was announced it is not a major issue since the division rivals play each other so often.

But the rain outs are a major issue in a different aspect for the Yankees. The rain out could be made up either this weekend (no issue, but very unlikely), in mid May or late August (both issues).

Jorge Posada can run as far as he wants,
but won't be able to avoid a rain out.
If the Orioles were to elect to make up the game in the middle of May (May 18th and 19th), it would come when the Yankees are already set to play 17 straight days. The Yanks might not mind this option as much as expected since most of the games during that stretch are at home, and right before they go to Baltimore they play the Rays in Tampa, only a short trip away. But the Orioles might not opt for this option, most teams would rather get the most money they could from selling tickets and concessions and the two game set is during the middle of the week (Weds/Thurs) and the teams would be forced to play a double header, so one game would be during the day, another loss at the gate since school is still in session and people would be at work.

The other option would be to battle it out at the end of August, the bombers are currently set to play 12 straight games during that time. Of course the temperatures would be much warmer and as an older team the Yanks probably would not want to have to play 13 games in 12 days. The four series against the Orioles is on the weekend and a Monday, so as long as the make up was during the weekend the Orioles would be making their money back.

What's with players running before rain outs? This
time before the O's got rained out at the stadium.
The likely make up date will be sometime in August since the weekends would satisfy Peter Angelo and the O's, and it would be more flexible of what day the game could be made up.

Of course the Yankees still need to make up a game against the Twins and Orioles at the stadium sometime before the season ends, so the end of the season could be rough for the bombers.

Doesn't matter if the Yankees have had the logo for over 100 years, they are getting sued!

This isn't the logo the Yanks
are being sued over, this was
created by Louis B Tiffany
in 1877.
For one of the oldest pro sports teams in America, and using the same logo for over 100 years, it doesn't prevent the Yankees from being sued for using their logo.

According to CNN New York resident Tanit Buday, is suing the Yankees claiming that her uncle was the one who created the Yankees logo and was never paid for it. The logo that is in question is not the famous interlocking NY, but rather the use of the top hat and bat. The famous interlocking NY was created in 1877 by Louis B. Tiffany, while the Yankees cursive writing with a baseball behind it was created by Henry Keller in 1947.

This logo was created by Henry
Keller in 1947, but the bat and
top hat are in question.
Honestly this is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard of. It sounds like this woman is not upset because her uncle never received credit but it sounds as if she is out for a big pay day. I really don't understand how someone could sue after such a long period, but I guess that's what makes those laws so tricky.

This weeks Yankee notes

Are you sure he's only 37?
Yes it has been a while, in fact its been too long. Anyway here is a run down of some things that don't really deserve their own post.

  • It could it be time for Bartolo Colon to stick in the starting rotation. Yes I will admit I was against the Yankees even giving him a legitimate shot, but with the way he has pitched it is tough to deny him the chance. I'm talking about him taking Ivan Nova's spot once Hughes comes back. Nova has yet to impress me, and is very frustrating to watch. The kid walks way to many guys and struggles his third go round in the batting order, I rather see him go down and work on some more pitches while the Yanks try and ride of Colon and hope he stays healthy.
  • Brett Gardner needs to have a long sit down with Kevin Long. Girardi should think of sitting him for a few days to clear his mind and then hope that a few lessons with Long pay off. Gardner is hitting just .128 this season, and although last season was one of the better left fielders, his arm is awful. I don't think it's time to send him down, but he has killed the Yanks so far.
  • This one is at Girardi but can Eduardo Nunez get in a game? And pinch running doesn't count. This is a young player that was ranked as one of the top 10 prospects in the Yankees system, and was rumored in trade talks this past winter. Sitting on the bench in the big league is not going to help his progress as a player and possible trade bait. If they were gonna do this, they should have gave Ramiro Pena the job.
  • Lastly check out my classmates video about the love of baseball from a Yankees perspective.

Free Yanks tix for those who braved the rain against the Orioles

Nice offer by the Yankees, for those who went to last nights 7-4 victory in favor of the Bronx bombers. Aside from getting to see a win, you can also get a free ticket to an upcoming game of your choice in the Terrace of Grandstand.

Not a bad deal considering it didn't look like it was raining that hard, and the game was never once delayed. But a part of me wonders if this was set up on purpose. Looking at the Yankees press release, it says you can either get a free ticket OR get 50% off non suite ticket. The Yankees are practically out of Grandstand seats for the remainder of the year, the Terrace likely has limited inventory. But the more expensive seats are available and you can now get them 50% off so your still giving the Yankees your money instead of Stubhub.

If you were able to get any of the free tickets, let me know cause I'm curious to hear.

Nick Swisher and Jonathan Papelbon Phillips Norelco commercial

Swisher should stop doing commercials and practice his hitting! Just kidding, Swisher is a funny guy, liked the blown save comment to Papelbon, since that is what he does best.

Expect more cheap seats for this weeks series vs. O's

Oh, how I miss the old stadium.
Looking for more empty seats and cheap tickets? Well look no further then this weeks match up against the Orioles. A mid week game, against a boring opponent. No diss to the Orioles but they aren't a big draw, even if they have been playing good ball this season.

The NY Daily News is even running a special this week for 50% off the games at the stadium against the O's and the Yankees have discounted the upper tier for $5. But Stubhub prices are dirt cheap, and if the weather is so-so then expect either alot of no shows or unsold seats.

Current prices on Stubhub start at just $1, so if you want to attend a game, no is the time.

Would a sweep for the Yanks equal dead sox?

The Red Sox are 0-6! Can you imagine the panic in Boston this weekend if the Yankees sweep. They would be wanting to trade away Crawford, cut Papelbon and beg for Mike Lowell to come out of retirement.

But before we can plan the celebration, the Yankees need to get the job done. A tough chore since Phil Hughes and Ivan Nova both worry me. But if the Yankees do sweep, are the Red Sox done? 0-9 is a tough hill to climb. The simple answer is no. They still would have 153 games to go, and could easily win 9 in a row. So don't count out the Red Sox.

But with the start to a long weekend of Red Sox Yankees rivalry talk enjoy the following video from Michael LaPayower:

Yankee Stadium has become Stubhub central

Behind Soriano are some seats that didn't sell.
Doesn't seem like long ago that the Yankees were selling out every night of the old Yankee Stadium. Ticket prices were high, but fairly priced for a team that was making the playoffs each season and tickets on the secondary market were going for a premium.

Flash forward to 2011. The prices at the new Yankee Stadium are much higher then they were just four seasons ago, yet they have still sold 3.3 million tickets this season. But it seems as if nobody is going to these games early in the season. Opening Day had 48,000 plus fans, but plenty of seats were available but that could be easily blamed on weather. The next game was a Saturday, against the Tigers again, and the stadium was barley at 40,000 and it looked like much less. The crowds around 40,000 have become a mini trend here, with each of the Twins games along with the other Tigers games attendance all falling short of a sell out.

Even Opening Day could be had on Stubhub for less
then face value.
Ticket prices on the secondary market are now laughable. For all the Twins games tickets could be had for less then $1, yes you are reading that correct ONE DOLLAR! The all inclusive Legend seats that were once prices at $2,500 big ones were going for $200. Field Level seats that ran as much as $325 were going for $30, and majority of regular seats in the Main, Terrace, Grandstand and Bleachers could be had for less then $20.

So why suddenly did the secondary market crash? Some say its because the Yankees are the ones who are putting up tons of seats on Stubhub themselves. I don't understand that logic, but I could see where people begin to believe that when blocks of 20 seats are available together. But what is most likely is that supply and demand are simply down, and add that with a weak economy and over priced tickets. The new Yankee Stadium pricing was set before the economy really crashed, and at the time it looked like a great idea. But since the economy took a turn for the worse, fans can no longer afford to go to a ball game. That includes season ticket holders, how have to sell off a ton of games to break even or make a small profit. You look on Stubhub and majority of the seats that are listed are likely from season ticket holders and plan holder who can not make it to all the games they own and would like to make back some money on their seats.

But why is it that season ticket holders can no longer attend all the games? Well most season ticket holders don't attend every single game, but everything that goes with attending a ball game cost money. Transportation can cost alot especially if you are not taking the subway. The metro north, LIRR, PATH all can be expensive and a hassle at times. You must run on their schedule not your own. If you want to run on your own schedule then you try and drive, but gas prices are sky rocketing, tolls are very high and parking not costs a whopping $35! Add in some food and drinks for the trip and suddenly your spending a small fortune.

Stubhub has ruined the secondary market for season ticket holders and brokers, but for the average fan who attends just the occasional game its a great feature. For attendance at the stadium, well it might be too early to judge. 2007-2010 was unique since it was the final seasons of the original Yankee Stadium and then the opening of the new one, but prior to that the stadium didn't sell out each night. If the trend continues then the Yanks should worry.

Hot start would be perfect for Yanks

Tex has gotten off to a hot start with
three home runs in three games, but can the Yanks do the same?
From 2004-2009 the Yankees were 70-74 in games played in March and April. Last season they broke that trend going 15-7. But it is still something very important for the Yankees this season, is to have a good start.

With the "underdog" status around the Yankees this season, it very important for Joe Girardi to make sure his club starts out hot. The last thing the Yankees want is media coverage around a struggling team asking about why the pitching is falling apart or for the Yankees to make a knee jerk move and trade away Jesus Montero or one of the killer B's for a pitcher.

So far the bombers, have lived up to their century long nickname, out hitting the Tigers this weekend to win two of three games. But some credit should go to the pitching. Sabathia gave the Yankees a chance to stay in the game only allowing three runs over six innings. Burnett pitched well despite battling a head cold, and the Yankees bullpen looked very strong.

Hughes did sputter today giving up a pair of long homers to Yankee killer Miguel Cabrera, but the Yanks offense kept them in the game the entire time.

The Yanks would rather look down at their opponents
in the standings, instead of up.
New York fans don't have alot of pacients, they began to boo A-Rod after one season, and booed Mark Tiexeria after a month. The last thing they want is to watch Ivan Nova struggled through a 5 five inning start in April in the cold, plus it sets a precedent for the rest of the season. How many times do teams get off to a hot start and suddenly all is forgotten about? Last season the Mets were in the playoff picture, and just as fans began to believe they bottomed out. But the issues of the Mets weren't mentioned as often when they were winning. That's  exactly what the Yankees want, to not hear the problems on the team.

From 2004-2009, each season the Yankees found ways to get hot in the second half of the season, but that can be tough. After the all star break or "the dog days" of the season most teams are beat up. The Yankees have a ton of older players who are going to battle injuries, and it would be tough for them to make up ground, especially against teams like the Rays, who are a young team with starting pitching depth. Or the Red Sox, who have been given the crown of AL East favorites.

Believe in Burnett

A.J. Burnett takes the mound for the first time in 2011 against the Tigers today. Burnett comes off his worst season, but it's a new year.

A.J. has always been a bit of a head case, who can forget him getting a random black eye last year? That's why this start is important for Burnett, he needs to get off to a decent starts so the media and fans don't get on his back. Today is that perfect opportunity, the Tigers aren't that impressive offensively other then Victor Martinez and Miguel Cabrera and Burnett will be opposed by the hittable Brad Penny.

A win today, and the confidence train can get rolling for Burnett and the bombers.

Yankee Stadium Experiences: 2011 Yankees Opening Day

Rain had been in the forecast for the Yanks opener, but not even the weather cold hold back the excitement of opening day. The area around Yankee Stadium was packed with fans wearing Yankee jerseys, caps and jackets.

Instead of taking mass transit, my father and I choose to drive into the Bronx. Around 155th street, the police had sectioned off the street, and were no longer allowing cars to head towards the stadium. We were forced to park in the old parking garage that use to located next to the old Yankee Stadium. It had been talked about during the winter, but I can now confirm that parking is indeed $35 bucks. I had noticed that with the price increase it did seem like the lots, I saw were really empty.

It was about 45 minutes prior to the first pitch, but outside the stadium was packed. From fans holding up signs and yelling about Cliff Lee, to the long lines to get into the stadium. Luckily the lines moved quickly, and I was back into the stadium for the first time in five months.

I headed to the upper deck, where my seats were, but I noticed that with the cold rainy conditions not many fans were sitting in their seats, but rather were in the bars outside the stadium or in the different clubs that Yankee Stadium had to offer.

Not much has changed with the stadium for 2011, although I noticed that just like in the main level the Yanks have added pictures to the beams in the upper deck.

The stadium was empty while the Tigers were announced, and unlike past years their was no big roar from the crowd as any special Yankees were announced other then the usuals like Jeter, Mariano, A-Rod and Cano.

Even though, most of the fans were still just making their way to their seats, the park had an electric feel to it as a large American flag was held in center field and they had a jet fly over the stadium.

The game was as text book as could be, with CC Sabathia giving the Yankees a strong outing, and Mark Teixeria bashing a three run shot.

With the cold weather, many fans choose to abandon their cold plastic seats for the warmth of indoor areas or the concourse. Although up on the grandstand level the concourse was like a giant wind tunnel, and much worse then the seated area.

As the Yankees blew the small lead they had gained on the Tigers, the game began to drag a bit, but Curtis Granderson, who had already made a few nice catches smashed a home run into the second deck in right, and just like that the Yanks had a lead they could hand over to the bullpen.

Rafael Soriano made his bombers debut and impressed, and then Mariano came in to close the door on a 6-3 Yankees victory.

It was a quick exit out of the stadium, due in part since the stadium had been clearing out for innings prior, on the way back to the car some "Boston Sucks" chants could be heard in the distance on River Ave.

After the game I sat in 2 1/2 hours worth of traffic, but the feeling that baseball was back at Yankee Stadium made for it all worth it.
