Torre and Mattingly return to the Bronx for first time for unveiling of George Steinbrenners monument

From the New York Post
Joe Torre and Don Mattingly will attend the unveiling of George Steinbrenner’s monument in Monument Park, according to multiple people with knowledge of the names who will be on hand tomorrow night at Yankee Stadium.

The Steinbrenner family invited people with ties to The Boss and Torre and Mattingly responded by telling the Steinbrenners they will attend.

Also expected to attend are Yogi Berra, Reggie Jackson, David Wells, David Cone. Lou Piniella was attempting to make the unveiling prior to the first of a four-game series against the Rays.

Well all I can say is I didn't see that coming. Maybe with all the talk about Torre retiring and Mattingly taking over as the Dodgers manager, Torre would like to make peace with the Yankees. If that is the case it shouldn't be long before we see Joe Torre day or Torre getting a front office job (could him and Cashman get along ?).

Although I am excited to see the reaction both get from the fans, something doesn't seem right that they should steal the spot light from George. George would want all the eyes to be on him, and it should be that way.
